Expert Review
TL;DR
A rich, decadent matcha packed with toasted umami notes.
Prepared as
I was pleasantly surprised to find Gokoru served in a traditional chawan at Chafinity’s lovely cafe in Costa Mesa, California.
This was a rich, brothy matcha packed with umami. The aftertaste had subtle toasted notes, something not typically associated with Saemidori matchas from Kagoshima (more so Uji and Yame).
There was a very slight, refreshing bitterness that didn’t distract, along with subtle sweetness. Both were hard to notice with this umami monster.
Overall, this was a delicious matcha that I’d indulge in again.
