Expert Review
TL;DR
A matcha with a subtle, delayed umami and brothy texture.
Prepared as
Kinrin is another well-rounded tea from Marukyu Koyamaen, though not as balanced as Wako. I found the astringency to be more pronounced. The umami is also stronger, and interestingly it hits a few seconds after you sip. There's no bitterness, which is true for all of Marukyu Koyamaen powders I've tried.
It's a solid option for those who like moderate umami and don't mind moderate astringency.

Naturally sweet, dreamy 🌿
Kinrin tastes like Marukyu put extra love into it. Naturally sweet (no sugar needed!), creamy mouthfeel, almost a hazelnut undertone. I prep usucha with about 3g and it's a beautiful color in my chawan. Don't waste this one on a latte friends ☺️
Sneaky good, surprised me
Wasn't expecting Kinrin to land for me because the description is sweet/floral coded and I usually want savage umami. But there's actually a really nice depth under the sweetness, almost a creamy hazelnut note. Whisked thick it's lovely. As usucha you start to notice a slight bitter aftertaste which I personally don't mind. Will I rebuy? Probably yes.
Tasty, naturally sweet, slight bitterness
I got a tin of Kinrin as gift from a friend who visited Japan. You can just taste the quality! It is not the nutty flavor I typically like, but it is really tasty and naturally sweet. It does have a slight bitter after taste but it doesn't get it in the way of my enjoyment of it. So far I have only tried it as usacha. I plan to try as a latte once I get to the bottom of the tin.
