First flush matcha from Yame in Fukuoka prefecture, blended for milk drinks. Long shading and the region's cool, misty valleys yield tencha high in amino acids; the resulting matcha is smooth, sweet, and full-bodied in a latte.

Built for milk, performs like it
This is marketed as a latte matcha and I'll take them at their word, because it's the rare time the label matches the cup. 3g, 170F, 2oz water, 6oz whole milk. Foams up smooth and thick, no clumps with a strainer and whisk. It's sweeter and rounder than the Uji blends I usually latte, less grassy, more of that buttery Yame character, so it carries milk without needing sweetener. Whole milk suits it better than oat here, the oat made it a little flat. Compared to Marukyu Aoarashi as a latte it's softer and less punchy, but it's also a good bit cheaper per gram, so for an everyday milk drink the value is hard to argue with. 100g is lasting me about three weeks at one latte a day.
My Yame latte daily driver, and it's cheap
Anyone who's seen my reviews knows Yame is my happy place, so a first-flush Yame blend that's literally built for milk was always going to win me over. And at 42 cents a gram?? I almost didn't believe it. This is exactly the buttery, nutty, naturally sweet Fukuoka profile I love, and Mizuba clearly made it to stand up in a latte because it does not get lost under oat milk at all. I've committed the sin of using pricier Kettl Yame in lattes before, and honestly this does the latte job better for a fraction of the cost lol. Drunk straight it's a bit flatter than my premium tins, so I keep this one strictly for my morning latte and save the fancy stuff for usucha. I will buy the 100g again!
