Kaoru grows in Uji Shirakawa, a fogged mountain valley where the day to night temperature swing is wide and the soil mixes mountain earth with sand. The cup is umami forward and earthy, closer to mushroom and stock than to grass, with a creamy body and mild bitterness. Subtle is not the word for it.
