Expert Review
TL;DR
A velvety smooth, well-balanced matcha with no surprises.
Prepared as
Wako is one of the most well-balanced matchas I've tried; "Round" as the tea snobs say.
The umami is subtle, but enjoyable. Sweetness is pronounced, and doesn't tail off into bitterness at all. I also tasted some roasted and nutty notes, which is rare for an Uji matcha.
Visually, Wako makes a gorgeous bright green brew that foams up beautifully. Pure eye candy for socials.
Be mindful of ratios when preparing Wako as usacha. The flavor changed dramatically when I adjusted water volume. 2g of powder with 3oz of water tasted flat. Dropping to 2.5oz of water brought out rich flavors that completely altered and improved my experience with Wako.

Wako is my forever first matcha 🥰
Wako is what I started with and I will keep buying it forever I think 🌟 it's the friendliest ceremonial matcha I've had. Round, no harsh notes, sweet on the back end. I make it as usucha most mornings and it's just a happy little bowl. Works great for lattes too if you have leftover from your morning whisking ☺️
Round and clean
Wako is round, clean finish, low astringency. The sweetness on the back end carries through milk well so it makes a good latte if you don't want anything aggressive. As usucha it's pleasant and approachable. I use slightly cooler water (around 170F) to keep the sweetness forward.
A solid intro ceremonial
Wako keeps coming up when people ask "what should I try first from Marukyu" and I get it now. It's round and a little sweet on the finish. Doesn't blow me away but I've never had a bad cup of it. I gave a tin to my mom for her birthday and even she liked it which is a real test.
