Sakata Matabei Matcha

Sakata Matabei, the trade name of the Matabei Tea Farm, is a single-estate producer in Kumiyama, southern Kyoto, where the Sakata family has farmed for roughly 350 years and made tencha across five generations since the Meiji era. It grows, shades, hand-picks, and stone-mills its own single-cultivar matcha on site, and has earned national honors including a Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries award. Production is small-batch and restocks seasonally.
