Expert Review
TL;DR
A neutral flavor profile that works well as a daily usacha, but be mindful of water and powder ratios.
Prepared as
Kiyona has a fairly neutral flavor profile, with slight bitterness that doesn't linger. It's a pleasant daily drinker at a reasonable price point.
I was initially underwhelmed with Kiyona as usacha, but have grown to appreciate it in subsequent preparations by using less water (2.5oz with 2g of powder), which brings out the umami. I also use slightly higher water temperature than normal - 180F - per Kettl's recommendation.
Speaking of price, Kettl occasionally offers a free tin of Kiyona with the purpose of tools or other matchas on their website. I'd definitely recommend taking advantage of this. It's rare for any matcha company to give away this much value, especially with a high quality ceremonial powder like Kiyona.

Balanced but kind of boring
Kiyona was my first Uji from Kettl. I expected it to feel more different from a Marukyu since it's a multi-cultivar blend with cashew/butter notes in the description. Honestly I just got "good polished matcha" which is fine but doesn't pull me in like the Yame stuff does. It is super smooth though, no astringency complaints from me.
