Shizuoka Matcha

Shizuoka is Japan's largest tea-producing prefecture by volume, sitting along the Pacific coast between Tokyo and Nagoya.

Most Shizuoka tea is sencha, but the region's small matcha output is well-regarded, particularly from inland mountain valleys where cooler temperatures and natural shading approach Uji-like conditions.

Shizuoka matcha typically shows brighter, greener flavor notes than Uji. Less heavy umami, more vegetal lift, often a cleaner finish. A good option if you find some Uji ceremonial matchas too dense.
